Flag sign for identifying escape routes
It is a legal requirement that all facilities must be equipped with escape route or emergency exit signs. In an emergency, people have to recognize them well and quickly orientate themselves using escape route signs. Emergency route flag signs, which are attached vertically to the wall, ensure optimal visibility. Symbols correspond to ASR A1.3 (2013), DIN ISO 3864, DIN EN ISO 7010, ISO 16069.
The flag sign itself is made of plastic, and escape route signs made of self-adhesive film are glued to the front (on both sides if desired). The signs are photoluminescent, the luminance is 160 mcd/m², so that the escape route sign can be clearly seen even in the dark. The size of the sign can be 297 x 148 or 400 x 200 mm.Assembly of the escape route flag signs
The film escape route signs can be stuck either only on the front or on the front and back of the flag sign. If you would like to stick your flag sign on both sides, please select the direction arrows you require. If you need a one-sided escape route sign, please select the directional arrow for the front and option “None (back empty)” for the back.
Before sticking on the films, please check whether the flag sign is free of grease and dry. The flag sign has two holes, each 3 mm in diameter, through which the sign is to be mounted on the wall with screws.Correct directional arrow for correct escape route direction
In 2017, requirements for graphic symbols and the meaning of escape route signs in combination with a directional arrow were specified. The current standards were supplemented and DIN SPEC 4844-4 was created according to the procedural rules of a technical report. The supplement includes, among other things, recommendations for standard-compliant attachment, correct assignment with escape signs and the use of directional information.
It is very important that the directional arrows on the flag sign clearly point to the escape route. Below are recommendations for marking the direction of travel and when changing floors.
Recommendation for marking the running direction
Directional arrow to the left – go left
Directional arrow to the right – go right
Directional arrow pointing up – go straight ahead, possibly through a door
Directional arrow left upwards – cross the free area diagonally to the left
Directional arrow right upwards – cross the free area diagonally to the right
Recommendation for marking when changing floors
Directional arrow up – go upwards
Directional arrow down – go downwards
Directional arrow left up – go up to the left
Direction arrow right up – go up to the right
Directional arrow left downwards – go downwards to the left
Direction arrow right down - go down to the right
