Maintenance of acrylic glass signs
Tuesday, October 1, 2019
Signs made of acrylic gas are very popular because the material has many positive properties. With good care, acrylic glass signs will remain as beautiful as new for years.
Outdoors, acrylic is particularly impressive. It is resistant to frost and UV rays from the sun. Since the material is translucent, writing, logos and images underneath are clearly visible. Acrylic is also easy to care for , but more prone to scratches than glass. This has to be taken into account when it comes to maintenance.
1. Always first remove loose dust with a brush or blow it away. Never try to rub off the dirt dry.
2. Dampen a soft, clean, lint-free cloth with lukewarm clean water with a little washing-up liquid added.
3. Gently wipe the acrylic sign with it. Avoid rubbing it with pressure.
4. Buff the clean sign dry with a leather cloth.
Caution : Never use glass cleaners, abrasives or solvents to clean an acrylic glass sign.
Alternatively, grease can also be removed with benzene-free benzine. Put this on a soft, lint-free cloth and gently wipe away the dirt.
Extra tip: anti-static plastic cleaner with care protects the sign from getting dirty again and has better cleaning power than washing-up liquid.
Sand over the scratches with the dampened paper. Start with the 240 and continue with the other grits. If the scratch on the acrylic glass plate is no longer visible, polish with the polish and a buffing wheel.
